Local Woman Receives "Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award" from White House
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF- March 12, 2024) –
A local entrepreneur was recognized by the White House for her accomplishments with girls in the community.
“And next recipient goes to Ebony Brown, who’s receiving an honorary Doctor degree in International Humanities, as well as the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award…’cheering'”
Dr. Ebony Brown caught the attention of the White House for the program ‘Brown Girls Code’.
She founded it in 2019.
The program helps expose girls of color to STEM-based fields and coding. She received both awards on February 17th in Atlanta, Georgia.
Celebrating Black Excellence 365: Brown Girls Code lights the path for young girls interested in STEAM-related fields
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF- October 4, 2023) – WJBF’s Black Excellence 365 recognizes inspiring black individuals and organizations in the CSRA year-round. Recipients are honored with the Mary L. Jones Black Affirmation Award.
This month, we honor Ebony Brown, whose love for technology led her to helping young girls interested in STEM.
“He was like, ‘Are you happy?” said Ebony Brown, founder and CEO of Brown Girls Code. “Have you discovered your passion in life? Do you love what you do?”
By 2017, Ebony Brown had achieved a successful career in staffing and human resources. But, one day, she encountered an ad on YouTube that changed her trajectory.
City of Augusta and local Nonprofit wrap up summer coding camp...
AUGUSTA, Ga., [August 1, 2023] ----Brown Girls Code (BGC), a global nonprofit headquartered in Augusta, partnered with the City of Augusta to host its FIRST DRONE TECHNOLOGY SUMMER CAMP. The Cyber & Drone Summer Camp hosted three (3) sessions for seventy-five (75) middle school students in Richmond County. Campers explored cybersecurity, computer programming and drone technology through hands-on activities using a culturally responsive approach in STEM. Students also learned more about careers in STEM and engaged in several mindfulness practices that can be applied beyond camp.
Brown Girls Code enters an Education Partnership with the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS)
AUGUSTA, Ga., [February 28, 2023] ----Brown Girls Code (BGC), a global nonprofit headquartered in Augusta, has entered a five-year educational partnership with the National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS). The partnership provides outreach opportunities for vetted civilian employees to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) enrichment activities while helping Brown Girls Code train more girls in computer science and cybersecurity.

world. This video is part of a larger section that documents the important roles girls have

Brown Girls Code’s Board of Directors is comprised of individuals from the medical, business technology, academic and volunteer communities within the Cyber District of Augusta, Georgia. Each member brings a wealth of experience in their fields and will serve as tremendous assets to Brown Girls Code. “I am elated to welcome Alicia and Michelle as new Board Members and Evett as our president,” said Ebony Brown Hicks, CEO/Executive Director of Brown Girls Code.
High 5 for Kids: Brown Girls Code
WFXG launched the For Our Children community campaign to improve the lives of children in the CSRA. In doing so, they are helping charities that focus on children's needs by recognizing the achievements of local children and providing valuable information to the community. Brown Girls Code was featured in their High 5 for Kids series on 9/11/2019.
Making History: First All Girls STEAM Event
“We wanted to cultivate an event that’s going to encourage and empower them,” she said. “Although this field is primarily male-dominated, there are opportunities and there is room for them.” After the panel, the girls will be able to talk to professionals in cybersecurity, engineering, business and IT about their career path.“We want every girl who comes to the event to understand that they truly can be anything,” Hicks said.
