About the Role
Positions Available: 3
Contract Dates: Fall 2022 & Spring 2023
Specific dates TBA, and time ranges (2:00PM - 5:30PM Pacific Standard Time)
Compensation: $675
POSITION
This position will follow a hybrid model (rotate between in person and virtual). The BGC
Afterschool High School (HS) Club Instructor will lead the implementation of BGC curriculum,
teaching 10 - 20 students (Grades 9 - 12), while creating and maintaining a strong sisterhood
culture. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-performance environment and
demonstrate flexibility to last minute modifications (if necessary). The BGC Afterschool HS Club
Instructor will effectively and eagerly create a strong consistent club culture, effectively prep for,
and facilitate lessons, build relationships with Coders and work in collaboration with staff and
BGC Team. Ideal Candidates with a background in engineering, science, or technology are
preferred for this role, but not required. The successful candidate will have direct experience
teaching high school students, with strong classroom management and community building
skills. Ideal Candidates will have experience programming in one or more coding languages and
demonstrate capabilities using technology tools to facilitate and teach coding (Zoom,
PowerPoint, Google Drive, email etc.). Our BGC Afterschool HS Club Instructor role will be a
contracted position based virtually working in conjunction with the BGC Afterschool Onsite HS
Club Facilitator and BGC State Facilitator.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in self-paced teacher/facilitator Professional Development (PD) prior to
Brown Girls Club start date (s)
• Prep lessons and complete projects prior to each club session to present material
effectively during club; in person and virtual (hybrid)
• Facilitate learning around coding and programming to students through BGC curriculum
• Interact with youth and staff as a resource and STEAM Mentor
• Implement and maintain Brown Girls Code Club culture
• Participate and assist in implementation of Brown Girls Code evaluations
• Participate in BGC Club Kickoff and end of year demo day
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Teaching groups of high school students in formal or informal setting (preferred)
• Fluent with Python recommended; not required
• Experience with block coding and/or any other computer programming language
• Strong classroom management/relationship building skills
• Demonstrates ability to problem solve
• Exceptional facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
• Well-versed in restorative practices and conflict management
• Enthusiasm and skill working in youth development
• Integrity, maturity, credibility, and a demonstrated commitment to Brown Girls CODE's
mission
• Demonstrates the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Experience in engaging youth within learning environment
• Commitment to complete entire project/contract
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
• Clubs can meet one day each week or biweekly for 1 - 2 hours
•Must be willing to adhere to BGC Wellness Policy and Covid-19 onsite school
requirements [which includes being fully vaccinated and wearing N95 Masks when onsite]
• Zoom enthusiast
• BA/BS or higher in Computer Science or related technical field preferred but
professional experience is an acceptable substitute. College Applicants and/or Graduate
Students majoring in Early Childhood Education and/or any S.T.E.A.M. related disciplines
are also encouraged to apply

Launched in 2018, Brown Girls Code (BGC) is a global nonprofit organization working to close the
gender and diversity gap in technology. Our programs equip underrepresented girls ages 7 - 18
with the skills and training needed to pursue 21st Century opportunities in Computer Science,
Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and other STEAM-related fields. Our goal is to increase
their knowledge and enthusiasm for the fields while building confidence, technical acumen, and
sisterhood. We are changing the face of tech through our programming which include workshops
and afterschool clubs where we train girls in coding, cybersecurity, robotics engineering, digital
citizenship, cyberbullying prevention as well as the development of entrepreneurial and
leadership skills.
